Before You Apply

Before submitting your application, make sure you:

Understand the specific courses, durations, and benefits of the Medical Science Institute program. Ensure the program aligns with your educational and academic goals.

Confirm that you meet the required qualifications and prerequisites for your chosen program.

Gather necessary documents, such as:

  1. Proof of age. Applicant MUST be born as of 2016 or earlier and not before 2007. (Any ID, student card, report card or, school document showing age) No exceptions will be made for students older than 17 (born 2007) or younger than 8 (born 2016).
  2. Essay Requirements: 
    Student essays should address the following questions:
    • Why do you wish to apply for this program?
    • What are your views on medical sciences?
    • How will entry into this program enable you to become a great leader?
    • What are your career goals?
    • Why should we choose you for this program?
      (Please note: We value honesty. Whether you have had little or extensive exposure to STEM, your drive to succeed and persevere is what matters most.)


    Essay Guidelines:

    • For students aged 8-12: Your essay should be between 150-250 words.
    • For students aged 13-17: Your essay should be between 250-400 words.

      **Please write in your own words and express your unique perspective. (No AI generated /  ChatGPT. ChatGPT essays will not be processed.)

    We encourage you to be honest, reflective, and creative in your response. Let your passion shine through!

  3. Endorsement/ Referral / Reference.

    The referral must be from a non-immediate relative. (Reference or endorsement can be from a teacher,  doctor, community representative, coach, scout/guide leader,  cousin, aunt, uncle, or family friend. The endorsement/reference cannot be from a mother, father, or guardian).
    The endorsement/reference must include the name,  phone number and, email address of the reference, and must include why the student is an excellent candidate for the Medical Science Institute. It may be any length.  

  4. Any other program-specific documentation (if applicable).

It is the responsibility of the student to provide accurate information during the application and enrollment process and to promptly report any changes. STEM Canada reserves the right to request verification of certain pieces of data to ensure records accuracy.

How To Apply

  1. Read the Admission requirements: Please ensure you have read all admissions policies, terms and conditions, and fee requirements.
  2. Complete the Application Form: Fill out the online application form with accurate information, including personal details, educational history, and any additional information requested.
  3. Submit Required Documents with your application: Upload the necessary documents (essay, reference and, proof o age.) directly to the application.

  4. Pay Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee of $59.00 ($89 International) is required for processing your application. You can pay this fee via Interac e-transfer,  PayPal (credit card), or Paysend.
  5. Confirm Your Details: Double-check all your details and submit your application. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email acknowledging your application.
  6. Create an Account: To continue your application, create an account in the MSI application portal.
  7. Await Your Acceptance: Within 3 to 10 days of your application submission, your application will be processed and we will notify you of your status.

After You Apply

Once you’ve submitted your application, follow these steps:

Your application will be reviewed by our admissions team within 3-10 business days. We will notify you of the status of your application, and if necessary, request additional documentation.

When your application is successful, you will receive an official offer letter of admission to the Medical Science Institute with further instructions on how to proceed.

Review your offer letter carefully. Once you’ve decided to accept, follow the instructions to confirm your acceptance and pay any required fees by the stated due date.

Once your acceptance is confirmed, you will receive additional details regarding orientation, course registration, and other essential information to start
your courses.

Important Deadlines

  • Winter Term: January 13 – 19, 2025. Application deadline: January 3, 2025.
  • Spring Term: April 7 – 13, 2025. Application deadline: March 27, 2025.
  • Fall Term: September 22, 2025. Application deadline: September 11, 2025.
